Fall 2009 - East Tennessee
Regional Meeting
Ready to Race at Bristol
Motor Speedway
November 10, 2009
The Fall 2009 East
Tennessee Regional TACE meeting was held on Tuesday, November 10,
2009 in Bristol, TN with sixteen in attendance. The group braved
the rainy weather to travel to King College where Donna Felty and
the King College staff treated everyone to a wonderful buffet lunch
with a wide variety of choices and delicious desserts. Attendees
included representatives from Tennessee Wesleyan College,
Pellissippi State, University of Tennessee, Richmont Graduate
University, East Tennessee State University, King College and guests
from Virginia Intermont College and Virginia Highlands Community
College. The meeting included a discussion on the upcoming SoACE
conference, the Interstate Career Council and an update on job fairs
and how the economy is affecting attendance in general. The lunch
meeting concluded with a presentation by our employer sponsor,
Israel O’Quinn, Director of Government & Community Affairs for
K-VA-T Food Stores, Inc. (Food City) on their partnership with the
region.
From there, the
group traveled to the Bristol Motor Speedway (BMS) for a bus tour of
the track, including the Bristol Dragway, Victory Lane and the setup
for the charity event, Speedway in Lights. Donna from King College
outdid herself by arranging for the tour to end in owner Bruton
Smith’s private suite overlooking the track where we heard from
Kevin Triplett, BMS VP of Public Affairs, on the importance of
putting the customer first in everything that is done at BMS,
including their need for employees, interns and volunteers. We also
got to hear a lot of great stories on NASCAR events and drivers and
received gifts from the track to go with the “goody bag” that was
provided by Food City and King College.
Thanks again
to everyone who made this event a success and to our sponsors – Food
City and King College – who provided the lunch and the events of the
day free to all our TACE members and guests!
I look forward to
seeing everyone at the Spring 2010 East Tennessee Regional TACE
meeting planned for Oak Ridge, TN. Kim Harris from Roane State will
be working with me to plan this event and we are looking for
mid-to-late March as a possible date. Please let me know if
you have preferences or conflicts with a March date or if you have
any ideas for the meeting.
